On April 6, 2024, a significant meeting took place between Mrs. Aissatou Diallo, Resident Representative of the World Bank in Gabon, and Auguste Kpognon, Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Gabon. Discussions focused on several crucial points for the country's development, including the general population and housing census, governance, and resource mobilization.

General Population and Housing Census

One of the major points discussed was the general population and housing census. UNFPA has committed to providing essential technical assistance through the recruitment of a Chief Technical Advisor. This support aims to ensure that the census is conducted effectively and accurately, providing crucial data for Gabon's socio-economic development.

Governance and Transparency

Discussions also emphasized the need to strengthen governance and transparency within Gabonese institutions. Mrs. Diallo stressed

the crucial role of good governance in ensuring effective and responsible use of public resources. The World Bank continues to work with the Gabonese government to improve governance mechanisms, strengthen institutions, and promote greater transparency and accountability in public affairs management.

Resource Mobilization and Integration into SWEDD

Resource mobilization was also a key topic of discussion. Both parties explored opportunities for Gabon to integrate into the Initiative for the Empowerment of Women and the Demographic Dividend in the Sahel (SWEDD). This integration aims to attract more resources and support for projects aimed at improving the living conditions of women and girls in Gabon.

Mrs. Diallo and Mr. Kpognon reaffirmed the importance of their partnership for Gabon's development. They agreed to continue working together to provide better access to social services for Gabonese populations, ensuring that no one is left behind.
